Can you do one thing for me?

Can you please make sure you have the fundamentals of your business culture – your core values – in check? And that everyone in your business is signed up to it.

It’s so important. It’s what your business is about – your vision. It needs to be understood and have staff buy in, otherwise things just won’t work. Your staff should know their value, and that they have a role to play in the company’s reputation.

It’s about being less concerned with the appearance of your business – and by that I’m not talking branding here, that is important! What I’m saying is, it’s not about having the superficial things done. You need to make sure the culture, what’s happening in and around your business, is on point.

I see a lot of businesses that look the part, jump on the latest marketing and PR trends, but their customer service or even their actual product just doesn’t cut it! There is no point things looking great on the outside if the inner workings aren’t doing what they should.

And if your business isn’t working as it should be – for example, the product you produce is not up to scratch – then this will become a public problem for you. That’s why workplace culture, behaviour and environment are imperative.

PR and reputation spans across many different areas of your work. It’s in all the nooks and crannies of your business. There’s no getting away from reputation, you have one whether you like it or not.

This is why businesses should be clear about PR and what reputation means for and to them. And this is why PR should always be part of your business’s foundation.
